Troop F Change of Command

The Louisiana State Police Troop F Commander, Captain Don French, is retiring after 35 years of service to the citizens of Louisiana. Captain French began his career with the Louisiana State Police in 1974 and was assigned as a resident trooper in Madison Parish in Troop F. In 1979, Captain French was transferred to the detective division where he worked investigations and narcotics for nearly ten years. In 1989, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and was transferred back to the patrol division as a shift supervisor until he was promoted to Lieutenant in 1999. Captain French was a shift Lieutenant in the patrol division until 2006 when he was promoted to the rank of Captain and named the Troop F Commander.

Captain French said that he “appreciates the opportunities he has had in serving the people of north Louisiana and values the relationships he has developed with other area public safety officials.” He added that he has been “blessed with a rewarding career and feels the state police is moving in a positive direction under the guidance of the current superintendant, Colonel Mike Edmonson.”

The Louisiana State Police would like to congratulate and thank Captain French for 35 years of outstanding service to the citizens of this state.

With the retiring of Captain French comes a change of command at Troop F. Colonel Mike Edmonson has promoted Kevin Reeves to the rank of Captain and appointed him to be the commander at Troop F. Captain Reeves lives in Jackson Parish and has been with the Louisiana State Police for 18 years. Captain Reeves began his career in 1990 where he worked at Troop A in Baton Rouge as a motorcycle officer and a member of the DWI Task Force. In 1993, Captain Reeves was transferred to Troop F where he worked in the patrol divisions as a resident trooper in Jackson Parish. Captain Reeves was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 1998 and worked as a shift supervisor. In 2003, he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and served as the Troop F Executive Officer until his appointment as the new Troop Commander.

Captain Reeves says that he is honored to be the new commanding officer at Troop F and stated that we will “continue to be a service organization and will partner with local sheriff’s and police departments to provide outstanding service to the citizens of north Louisiana”. Captain Reeves said that troopers will continue to focus their efforts on public safety and will aggressively enforce the states DWI laws. Troopers will also be directed to watch for aggressive drivers, speeders and those people who fail to wear their seat belt or properly restrain children.
