| LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE Colonel Michael D. Edmonson, Superintendent News Release July 16, 2008 Child Safety Seat Check Scheduled In order to promote the awareness of child safety seats, Louisiana State Police, Sparks Nissan of Monroe, Louisiana Passenger Safety Task Force and Monroe Police Department are sponsoring a child seat check-up event as part of “Public Safety Appreciation Day” at the Sparks Nissan dealership in Monroe (off I-20 and Millhaven Rd near Target) on Saturday, July 19, 2008 from 11 AM to 2 PM. The event is open for all first responders, general public and media. Sparks Nissan is also offering free refreshments (drinks, burgers, hot dogs, etc.) to all attending. Troopers will also have the seatbelt (rollover) simulator on hand for demonstrations. Louisiana statistics show 9 out of every 10 child seats are not installed correctly and have at least two errors. This misuse rate can be attributed to the great variety of child seats available, the great range of children's weights and heights, and the array of vehicles in today's market. These misuses span all races, educational levels, and socioeconomic status. To lower the misuse rate, nationally certified child passenger safety technicians will be on-hand for free evaluations and to provide educational information for parents and caregivers. Rain or Shine! No Appointment Necessary!
