News Release July 28, 2008 Fatal Head-on Crash in Jackson Parish
On July 28, 2008 at about 8:40 am, Louisiana State Police Troop F Troopers investigated a two vehicle crash which resulted in the death of one driver. The crash occurred on LA 146(milepost 44.6), about thirteen miles north of Chatham, in Jackson Parish. A 2008 Jeep Wrangler was traveling west on LA 146 when, for unknown reasons, the driver crossed the center line and struck an east bound 2008 Ford F-450 truck head-on. The driver of the Jeep, identified as 33 year old Shannon McCarty from Quitman, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Jackson Parish Coroner's Office. McCarty was wearing her seat belt at the time of the crash. The driver of the Ford truck, identified as 51 year old Michael Otwell from Ruston, was transported to the Lincoln Parish hospital with moderate injuries. Otwell was also wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash. Alcohol use is not suspected to be a factor in the crash, but routine toxicology tests are pending.
In 2008, Louisiana State Police Troop F Troopers have investigated thirty-three (33) fatal crashes resulting in thirty-four (34) deaths. For More Information, Contact:
