News Release August 14, 2008 Troopers to Crackdown on Impaired Drivers
Louisiana State Police Troop F Troopers will be joining with thousands of other law enforcement officers across the nation to take part in the Drunk Driving, Over the Limit, Under Arrest crackdown on impaired driving. The campaign will begin on August 15th and will continue through the Labor Day holiday.
Last year in Louisiana, forty-nine percent of all fatality crashes were alcohol related. Troop F Commander, Captain Don French, has dedicated additional Troopers to the enforcement effort and said "there is no excuse for driving while impaired. When we catch you, you will be arrested." Troop F Troopers will be patrolling all the roadways in the area. Troopers will not only patrol the major traffic avenues, but will concentrate much of their effort in the rural parishes. The mission of the troopers will be to intercept and incarcerate impaired drivers before they can cause injury to themselves, their passengers or members of the public.
Troopers offer these tips to keep you safe and within the law.
· Do not drive if you have consumed alcohol or taken any drugs. · Use a designated driver or choose public transportation. · Do not ride with someone who is impaired. · Report impaired drivers by dialing *577 (*LSP).
