Sobriety Checkpoints Scheduled for Friday Night

In Louisiana alone, almost half of all fatality crashes involve impaired drivers. To combat impaired driving in our area, Louisiana State Police Troop F will team up with the Monroe and West Monroe Police Departments to conduct two separate sobriety checkpoints this Friday, August 22, 2008. The checkpoints will be in Ouachita Parish from approximately 10:00 pm to 4:00 am, weather and traffic conditions permitting.

The mission of the departments involved will be to intercept and incarcerate impaired drivers before they cause injury to themselves, their passengers or members of the public. Drivers are less likely to drive impaired when they recognize the increased probability of law enforcement action.

This is part of the national Drunk Driving, Over the Limit, Under Arrest campaign. There is no excuse for driving while impaired and when we catch an impaired driver, they will be arrested.
