Edmonson, Superintendent News Release December 1, 2008 Troopers to Offer Safety Tips at Toy Drive Louisiana State Police Troopers will be at the OPUS Broadcasting/Rock 106 studios Saturday, December 6, 2008 to participate in the 7th annual Rock 106 "Toyz for the Kidzes" toy drive. Troopers will be on location at 1200 North 18th St in Monroe between 11:00 am and 1:00 pm to speak with parents and children about safety related issues. Studies show that nine out of ten car seats are improperly installed and last year, in Louisiana, eighty percent of the children under five years of age that were killed in traffic crashes were not properly restrained. Troopers, partnered with the Louisiana Passenger Safety Task Force, will be offering free child seat checks and we will have booster seats to give away to children who qualify (while quantities last). Troopers will be on hand to talk about bicycle safety, pedestrian safety, vehicle safety, and other public safety related issues. There will be other events at the location and the public is encouraged to take time from their busy schedules to stop by and make themselves and their children a little safer this holiday season.
