| LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE Colonel Michael D. Edmonson, Superintendent News Release May 18, 2009 Operation “Click it or Ticket” The Louisiana State Police Troop F Troopers will be participating in the nationwide “Click it or Ticket” campaign. The campaign will run from May 18, 2009 to May 31, 2009 and troopers will be teaming up with other area law enforcement agencies to aggressively enforce the state’s safety belt and child restraint laws. Louisiana law requires the driver and front seat passengers wear a safety belt correctly at all times. Children under the age of thirteen must be restrained with a seat belt and/or appropriate child restraint regardless of seating position. Enforcement will be conducted in all areas and checkpoints will be regularly scheduled to help identify those persons not complying with the state’s safety belt laws. According to the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission, seat belts reduce the risk of fatal injury to passenger car occupants by 45 percent and the risk of moderate to critical injury by 50 percent. In 2008, sixty five percent of the 910 people killed in vehicle crashes in Louisiana were not buckled up. Failure to wear a safety belt contributes to more traffic related fatalities than any other single traffic related behavior—even drunk driving! Don't become an unacceptable statistic. If you are not wearing your seat belt, you will be ticketed. No excuses!
