Unrestrained Texas Man Killed in Single Vehicle I-10 Crash

Sorrento Shortly after 6:00 am on March 24, 2018, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a single vehicle crash that resulted in a fatality on I-10 eastbound west of LA Hwy 22 in Ascension Parish. The crash took the life of 21 year old Emilio J. De Los Santos of Edinburg, TX.

The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as De Los Santos was traveling eastbound on I-10 in a 1999 Toyota Solara. For reasons still under investigation the Toyota ran off of the roadway to the left. After leaving the roadway the Toyota entered the median and struck a tree on the driver’s side.

De Los Santos was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and suffered fatal injuries as a result. Impairment is unknown at this time, but a toxicology sample was taken from De Los Santos to be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.

Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists that all occupants in a vehicle must be restrained, regardless of seating position. While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired, always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained, and avoiding all distractions can often mean the difference between life and death.
