News Release February 18, 2009 Two Waterproof Officials Arrested Following State Police Investigation The Mayor and the Police Chief of Waterproof, LA were arrested this morning following a six month long state police investigation.
The Louisiana State Police conducted a lengthy investigation into the town of Waterproof following complaints of malfeasance in office and other allegations of wrong doing. On February 12, 2009 a Tensas Parish Grand Jury indicted Mayor Bobby Higginbotham on forty-four (44) felony counts including felony theft, malfeasance in office, payroll fraud and using public funds for personal use. The Grand Jury indicted the Waterproof Police Chief, Miles Jenkins, on three (3) felony counts including receiving bonuses for meeting traffic ticket quotas and altering traffic citations.
Today, February 18, 2009, Higginbotham and Jenkins turned themselves in to Louisiana State Police Detectives and they were each booked at the Tensas Parish jail. Bobby Higginbotham had a $100,000 bond and Miles Jenkins had a $20,000 bond. Both men bonded out today.
The investigation is ongoing.
