Child Killed in Hit and Run Crash

A seven year old female has been killed in a hit and run crash.

The crash occurred on Interstate 20 near milepost 102 in western Ouachita Parish. The crash occurred around 10:00 pm on the evening of Thursday, April 23, 2009.

A 2007 Toyota Camry was traveling west on Interstate 20 in the right lane beside an unknown eighteen wheeler (tractor/trailer). The driver of the Camry stated that the eighteen wheeler changed lanes into her vehicle causing her to run off the right side of the road and lose control. After leaving the roadway, the Camry rolled over and ejected two of its four occupants.

A seven year old female juvenile was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene by the Ouachita Parish Coroner's Office. Also ejected from the Camry, was 49 year old Tammie Archie from Ruston. She was transported to Glenwood Hospital with critical injuries. Tammie Archie was unrestrained at the time of the crash. The juvenile was reported to have been restrained with an adult seat belt.

The driver of the Camry, identified as 21 year old Jerika Archie from Grambling, was taken to Glenwood Hospital with minor injuries. A fourth occupant, identified as 26 year old Michelle Archie from Arcadia, was transported to Glenwood Hospital with minor injuries.

According to Jerika Archie and another witness, the truck that caused the crash slowed down briefly, but then continued west on Interstate 20 without stopping. They described the “eighteen wheeler” as having a white cab, pulling a flat bed type trailer with freight strapped to the middle portion of the trailer.

Anyone with information which may help identify the truck involved in this crash is asked to call the Troop F office at (318)345-0000 or their local law enforcement agency.

This crash is still under investigation.

In 2009, Louisiana State Police Troop F Troopers have investigated eleven (11) fatal crashes resulting in twelve (12) deaths.
