The crash occurred on Interstate 20 near milepost 102 in western Ouachita Parish. The crash occurred around 10:00 pm on the evening of Thursday, April 23, 2009.
A 2007 Toyota Camry was traveling west on Interstate 20 in the right lane beside an unknown eighteen wheeler (tractor/trailer). After leaving the roadway, the Camry rolled over and ejected two of its four occupants.
A seven year old female juvenile was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene by the Ouachita Parish Coroner's Office. Also ejected from the Camry, was 49 year old Tammie Archie from Ruston. She was transported to Glenwood Hospital with critical injuries. Tammie Archie was unrestrained at the time of the crash. According to Jerika Archie and another witness, the truck that caused the crash slowed down briefly, but then continued west on Interstate 20 without stopping. They described the “eighteen wheeler” as having a white cab, pulling a flat bed type trailer with freight strapped to the middle portion of the trailer.
