News Release December 2, 2008 Motorcycle Driver Dies in Ouachita Parish Crash
On December 2, 2008 at about 5:58 pm, Louisiana State Police Troop F Troopers investigated a two vehicle crash that claimed the life of a Sterlington man. The crash occurred on LA 139 just north of Rowland Road in eastern Ouachita Parish. A 2003 Pontiac Grand Am was pulling out of a private drive and drove into the path of a 2000 Honda motorcycle that was traveling north on LA 139. The driver of the motorcycle, identified as 17 year old Joshua Sumrall from Sterlington, was unable to avoid the crash and struck the Pontiac. After the collision, Sumrall was separated from the motorcycle. Sumrall was transported to St Francis Hospital where he was pronounced dead from injuries he sustained in the crash.
The driver of the Pontiac, identified as 22 year old Courtney Wilson from Monroe, was not injured in the crash. Wilson received a citation for Failure to Yield from a Private Drive.
Alcohol is not suspected to be a factor, but routine toxicology tests are pending. Sumrall was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
In 2008, Louisiana State Police Troop F Troopers have investigated forty-four (44) fatal crashes resulting in fifty (50) deaths. For More Information, Contact:
