West Monroe man Dies in Head-on Crash |
LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE
Colonel Michael D. Edmonson, Superintendent
News Release January 17, 2009 West Monroe Man Dies in Head-on Crash A West Monroe man has died in a head-on crash in Jackson Parish. The crash occurred January 17, 2009 at about 11:35 am on LA 155 about 2 miles west of LA 146 in Jackson Parish.
A 2008 Chevrolet truck, driven by 38 year old Mark D. McClain from West Monroe, was traveling on LA 155 and was attempting to make a left turn into a private drive. The Chevrolet pulled into the path of a 2000 Peterbuilt tractor-trailer and McClain, apparently, attempted to avoid the collision by swerving back to the right just as the driver of the Peterbuilt steered to the left to avoid the crash. The vehicles collided in a head-on manner on LA 155.
McClain was airlifted to LSU-Shreveport hospital where he later died from injuries he sustained in the crash. McClain was not wearing his seat belt and alcohol is not suspected to be a factor in the crash.
The driver of the Peterbuilt, identified as 44 year old Rodney Smith from Jena, sustained moderate injuries in the crash and was transported to the Jackson Parish hospital for treatment. Smith was wearing a seat belt.
No citations were issued in the crash.
