| LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE News Release February 9, 2008 Results from Sobriety Checkpoint The Louisiana State Police, Monroe Police Department, and agents from the Alcohol, Tobacco Control (ATC) conducted a sobriety checkpoint Friday, February 8, 2008, at the intersection of US Hwy 80 and 14th Street in Monroe. The mission of the law enforcement personnel was to intercept impaired drivers and remove them from the roadway before they could hurt themselves or others. Between 10:00 pm and 4:00 am, there were over 400 cars screened by the officers. The following is a list of the violations, citations and arrests made by the departments involved: Driving While Intoxicated- 4 arrests were made Simple Possession of Marijuana- 2 summons issued Seat belt and child restraint violations- Total of 8 citations Open Alcoholic Container-13 citations issued Underage Possession of Alcohol- 2 citations issued Insurance Violations-2 violations Other Citations-22 citations issued for various offenses Warrant Arrest-1 arrest warrant served The Louisiana State Police hope that these checkpoints serve as a deterrent to people who think they can jeopardize their safety or the safety of the general public by driving while impaired. If you are caught driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, you will be arrested. NO EXCUSES.
