Results from Sobriety Checkpoint

The Louisiana State Police, Monroe Police Department, and agents from the Alcohol, Tobacco Control (ATC) conducted a sobriety checkpoint Friday, February 8, 2008, at the intersection of US Hwy 80 and 14th Street in Monroe. The mission of the law enforcement personnel was to intercept impaired drivers and remove them from the roadway before they could hurt themselves or others. Between 10:00 pm and 4:00 am, there were over 400 cars screened by the officers. The following is a list of the violations, citations and arrests made by the departments involved:

Driving While Intoxicated- 4 arrests were made

Simple Possession of Marijuana- 2 summons issued

Seat belt and child restraint violations- Total of 8 citations

Open Alcoholic Container-13 citations issued

Underage Possession of Alcohol- 2 citations issued

Insurance Violations-2 violations

Other Citations-22 citations issued for various offenses

Warrant Arrest-1 arrest warrant served

The Louisiana State Police hope that these checkpoints serve as a deterrent to people who think they can jeopardize their safety or the safety of the general public by driving while impaired. If you are caught driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, you will be arrested. NO EXCUSES.

We will continue to conduct these types of details as part of our overall mission to ensure everyone's safety on the roadways of this state.
