Elderly Man Dies after Reporting Minor Injuries in Crash

On March 22, 2008 at 11:36 am, Louisiana State Police Troopers investigated an injury crash in Richland Parish. The crash occurred on LA 622 at milepost 1.5 when a 1988 Ford F-150, which had been traveling west, rear ended a 2003 Case farm tractor pulling a disk plow. The investigating trooper responded to the scene and was able to interview the driver of the Ford who was identified as 83 year old Edward Jones from Mangham, LA. Jones said that he was looking off to his left and was temporarily blinded by the sun prior to rear ending the tractor. Jones complained of minor injuries at the scene and was transported to St. Francis Hospital in Monroe by ambulance.

The driver of the tractor, identified as 22 year old Gregory Wallace from Winnsboro, LA, was not injured in the crash. The tractor was equipped with the required markings and safety equipment.

Mr. Jones was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash and was issued a citation for following too close. Alcohol use is not suspected to be a factor.

On the evening of March 23rd, Troop F received information that Mr. Jones had more serious injuries than was originally believed and was transported to the hospital in Jackson, MS where he later died. Troopers are now investigating the incident as a fatality crash.

In 2008, Louisiana State Police Troop F Troopers have investigated thirteen (13) fatal crashes resulting in fourteen (14) deaths.
