School Bus Involved in Franklin Parish Crash

On February 5, 2008 at 6:20 am, Louisiana State Police Troop F Troopers investigated a two vehicle crash involving a school bus in Franklin Parish. The crash occurred on US 425 just south of Baskin when a 2006 Mercury Grand Marquis, which was traveling south, rear ended a southbound 1992 International School Bus. The school bus driver had just picked-up her first group of children on the first stop of her route when the crash happened. There were fourteen children on the bus ranging in age from 8 to 13 years old. All the children were taken to Franklin Medical Center by ambulance or private transport for evaluation and treatment. There were no serious injury complaints reported among the children and the bus driver, who was identified as 56 year old Betty Walters from Baskin, was not injured in the crash.
The 2006 Mercury involved in the crash was an unmarked Franklin Parish Sheriff's Department unit and it was being driven by 63 year old Charles Cureington from Winnsboro. Cureington was transported to the Franklin Parish Medical Center for treatment and his injuries were classified as moderate, but not life-threatening.
At this time, no citaitons have been issued and the investigation is ongoing.
Any questions regarding the status or employment of Charles Cureington should be directed to the Franklin Parish Sheriff's office.
