| TROOP A NEWS RELEASE April 1, 2018 Motorcyclist Killed in Livingston Parish Crash Maurepas – Shortly after 3:00 pm on March 31, 2018, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a single vehicle crash involving a motorcycle that resulted in a fatality. The crash occurred on LA Hwy 22 east of LA Hwy 16 in Livingston Parish. 64-year-old Wayne W. Whitfield of Bridge City was killed as a result of the crash. The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Whitfield was traveling westbound on LA Hwy 22 on a 1997 Harley Davidson motorcycle. For unknown reasons as Whitfield entered a right hand curve his Harley ran off of the roadway to the left. Upon leaving the roadway the Harley entered into a ditch, and Whitfield was ejected as a result. Despite the fact that Whitfield was wearing a DOT approved helmet, he suffered serious injuries as a result of the crash. He was transported from the scene via Acadian AirMed to North Oaks Hospital, where he later succumbed to those injuries. Impairment is not suspected, but a toxicology sample was taken from Whitfield to be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. This crash remains under investigation. Although not all crashes are survivable, Troopers would like to encourage all riders to take an approved motorcycle safety course. These courses help you apply safe riding strategies that can help reduce your chance of injury should a crash occur. Making good choices while riding a motorcycle, such as never driving while impaired and obeying all traffic laws, can often mean the difference between life and death.
