Fourth of July Holiday Safety

As the busy Fourth of July holiday approaches, Louisiana State Police Troop F wants to remind motorists to drive carefully so that everyone can arrive safely to their destinations. Million’s of people across the country will be taking to the roads for vacation and other family activities. As the traffic on our roadways increases, so do the chances of being involved in a motor vehicle crash.

Troop F Troopers will be patrolling the roadways to ensure that everyone is driving with due care and offering assistance to motorists in need. Troopers will focus much of their attention on aggressive driver's, speeder's, impaired driver's, and those who do not wear their seat belts or properly restrain children.

Troopers have teamed up with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries to aggressively enforce the state's DWI laws on the waterways and all access roads to these areas.

On Saturday, July 5, 2008 from 10:00 pm until about 4:00 am, Troop F Trooper's will team up with the West Monroe Police Department to conduct a DWI checkpoint within the city limits of West Monroe. Anyone caught driving while impaired will be arrested. There is no excuse for endangering your life or the lives of those around you by driving a vehicle while impaired.

In the event you have a problem or see a hazardous condition, like an impaired driver while you are traveling on the roadways, you can dial *LSP (*577) on your cell phone and speak with the nearest State Police Troop Office.

Remember:

·Always wear your seat belt and properly restrain children.
·Never drink and drive.
·Never get into a vehicle with a driver that has been drinking
·Always have a designated driver or call a cab.
·Be aware of the constructions zones throughout Louisiana. Please expect delays and allow additional time to reach your destination. Follow all reduced speed limits.
