LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE News Release January 3, 2008
Medical Condition Suspected as Cause of Fatal Crash
On January 2, 2008 at about 10:10 pm, Louisiana State Police Troop F Troopers investigated a one vehicle fatality crash in Madison Parish. The crash occurred on Interstate 20 at milepost 182 when an eastbound 2007 Ford Expedition ran off the right side of the roadway and struck a small tree. The driver, identified as 63 year old John R Abbott from Jackson, MS, was transported to River Region Hospital in Vicksburg where he was pronounced dead. While Troopers are investigating the incident as a fatality crash, the damage to the vehicle is not consistant with what is normally observed in fatal crashes. There was only moderate damage observed on the Ford. It is believed that the driver had a preexisting medical condition which contributed to the crash and his death. Abbott was wearing his seat belt and alcohol is not suspected to be a factor in the crash.
