Alcohol Use Suspected in Serious Injury Crash
On January 12, 2008 at 4:45 am, Louisiana State Police Troop F Troopers investigated a one vehicle crash which resulted in serious injury to the driver. The crash occurred on Interstate 20 near milepost 129.8 in Richland Parish. A 2000 GMC Yukon was traveling east bound when the driver lost control of the vehicle and entered the median. The Yukon continued through the median and into the westbound travel lanes where it rolled at least one time before leaving the north side of the roadway and impacting some trees. The driver, identified as Derek D. Vickers, a 29 year old West Monroe man, had to be extricated from the vehicle and was transported to St. Francis Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Alcohol use is suspected to be a factor in the crash and toxicology tests will be done. Seat belt use is unknown and citations are pending.
