| LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE News Release April 2, 2008 Suspect Arrested in Lake Providence Murder On April 1, 2008 at approximately 11:30 pm, the Lake Providence Police Department requested the Louisiana State Police Detectives conduct an investigation into the shooting death of nineteen year old Roy Sanders of Lake Providence. The shooting occurred at the intersection of Ransdel and Fischer Streets in Lake Providence. Initial witness reports indicated the death was a result of a drive-by shooting. On April 2, 2008 Louisiana State Police Detectives interviewed nineteen year old Lake Providence resident, Michael Kelly, who was at the scene of the shooting. Information received by the detectives led them to believe that Kelly had fabricated his account of the shooting. While speaking with detectives, Kelly admitted he had lied about the drive-by shooting scenario and admitted he had, in fact, shot Sanders. Following a search, detectives recovered the alleged murder weapon, a .38 caliber revolver, from the suspect’s residence. Kelly has been booked at the East Carroll Parish Detention for Second Degree Murder. The investigation is on-going.
