Troopers Investigate a Pair of Serious Injury Crashes


On June 1, 2008, Louisiana State Police Troop F Troopers investigated a pair of crashes which resulted in serious injuries to the drivers. The first crash occurred at 11:20 am on LA 552 at mile post 6 in Union parish when a west bound 2006 GMC pick-up truck ran off the roadway to the left. The driver then over corrected, came back onto the roadway and ran off the right side of the road. The truck went into a ditch and then struck several large trees.
The driver, identified as 58 year old John Simpson Jr. from Downsville, was transported to LSU-Shreveport hospital with serious injuries. Simpson was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash and alcohol use is suspected to be a factor. Simpson was cited for DWI, Careless Operation, Failure to wear a Seat Belt, and Expired Driver's License.

The second crash occurred at 12:21 pm on LA 593 at mile post 2.1 in Morehouse parish when a south bound 1998 Mercury Marquis ran off the right side of the road and then over corrected back to the left where it went off the left side of the roadway and struck a large tree.
The driver, identified as 26 year old Travis Anderson from Bastrop, and his one year old male passenger had to be extricated from the vehicle. Anderson was transported to St. Francis North Hospital with life-threatening injuries. The one year old passenger was unrestrained at the time of the crash and was transported to an area hospital with only minor injuries. Anderson was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash. While alcohol use is not suspected to be a factor, routine toxicology tests are pending. No citations have been issued at this time and the investigation is on-going.
