Unrestrained Driver Seriously Injured in Caldwell Crash

On April 7, 2008 at about 2:00 pm, Louisiana State Police Troop F Troopers investigated a one vehicle crash on LA 4 at milepost 97.5 in Caldwell Parish. The investigation revealed that a 1995 Ford Escort was traveling west on LA 4 when, for unknown reasons, the driver lost control of the vehicle and ran off the left side of the roadway. The vehicle then rolled over and ejected the unrestrained driver before hitting several trees and coming to rest.

The driver, identified as 31 year old Chad Nelson from Grayson, was transported to the LSU-Shreveport Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Alcohol use is suspected to be a factor in the crash and toxicology tests are pending. Nelson was cited for Driving While Intoxicated, Careless Operation and Failure to Wear a Seat Belt.
