| LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE News Release May 5, 2008 Teen Suffers Serious Injury in Submerged Vehicle On May 4, 2008 at about 8:57 pm, Louisiana State Police Troop F Troopers investigated a one vehicle crash which resulted in serious injuries to a juvenile occupant. The crash occurred on LA 143 at milepost 6.5 in northern Ouachita Parish. A 2003 Toyota Tacoma was traveling south on LA 143 when the driver lost control of the vehicle and ran off the left side of the road. The truck struck an embankment and rolled over, coming to rest in a pond where it began to fill with water. The driver, identified as 41 year old Eric Ferguson, was not injured in the crash and was able to get out of the vehicle. The driver’s son, a sixteen year old juvenile passenger, was restrained in the back seat of the truck and was trapped in the submerged vehicle for about fifteen minutes before a bystander could remove him from the truck. The juvenile passenger was transported to an area hospital with life threatening injuries. The investigation is ongoing, but alcohol use is suspected to be a factor in the crash. Eric Ferguson was arrested and booked into the Ouachita Parish Correctional Center for First Degree Vehicular Negligent Injuring and Careless Operation.
