Edmonson, Superintendent News Release May 18, 2010 10:45 am Sobriety Checkpoints Scheduled In Louisiana alone, almost half of all fatality crashes involve impaired drivers. To combat impaired driving in our area, Louisiana State Police Troop F Troopers will team up with other law enforcement agencies to conduct two sobriety checkpoints this week. On Thursday, May 20, 2010, the Louisiana State Police, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries and the west Monroe Police Department will conduct a sobriety checkpoint in West Monroe from approximately 9:00 pm to 3:00 am. On Friday, May 21, 2010, the Louisiana State Police and the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries will partner with the Union Parish Sheriff's Office to conduct a sobriety checkpoint in Union Parish from approximately 9:00 pm to 3:00 am. The mission of the departments involved will be to intercept and incarcerate impaired drivers before they cause injury to themselves, their passengers or members of the public. Drivers are less likely to drive impaired when they recognize the increased probability of law enforcement action. There are no excuses for impaired driving and those who choose to endanger themselves or others will be arrested.
