News Release May 23, 2010 Juvenile Dies in East Carroll Parish Crash
A sixteen year old girl has died in a one vehicle roll-over crash in East Carroll Parish.
Louisiana State Police Troop F Troopers investigated the crash on May 22, 2010 at about 10:00 pm. The investigation revealed that a 2004 Chevrolet Suburban was, for unknown reasons, traveling west in the eastbound lane of LA 3181 in East Carroll Parish. The driver lost control of the vehicle and ran off the left side of the road where it struck a ditch and flipped over at least one time. The vehicle then came to rest on its passenger side.
At the time of the crash, there were five juveniles in the vehicle. Four of the five occupants were ejected from the vehicle. A sixteen year old passenger, identified as La'Tyreneka Kelly from Lake Providence, was pronounced dead at the scene by the East Carroll Parish Coroner's Office. It was reported that Kelly had been standing in the middle of the second row of seats in the vehicle with her head out of the sun roof prior to the crash.
Three fifteen year old passengers and the sixteen year old driver were transported to the East Carroll Parish Hospital with moderate injuries.
The sixteen year old driver was cited for Careless Operation and No Driver's License. Impairment is not suspected, but routine toxicology tests are pending. In 2010, Louisiana State Police Troop F Troopers have investigated thirteen (13) fatal crashes resulting in thirteen (13) deaths.
