Two Die in Morehouse Parish Crash

A fifty-one year old Bastrop man and his twelve year old grandson have died in a Morehouse Parish Crash.

Louisiana State Police Troop F Troopers investigated the crash on June 11, 2010 at about 3:09 pm. A 2007 Volvo tractor/trailer was traveling north on US 425 (MP 91) between Oak Ridge and Mer Rouge when, for unknown reasons, the tractor/trailer crossed the centerline and side-swiped an oncoming 2003 Chevrolet truck. The tractor/trailer then ran off the road and struck a large tree where it became engulfed in fire.

After the initial collision, the Chevrolet truck ran off the west side of the road and came to rest in a ditch. The driver of the Chevrolet, identified as 39-year-old William Barham III from Oak Ridge, received minor injuries in the crash.

The driver of the Volvo tractor/trailer was identified as 51-year-old Randal Welch from Bastrop. Welch and his 12-year-old grandson, Devon Taylor, who was a passenger in the vehicle, were pronounced dead at the scene by the Morehouse Parish Coroner's Office.

Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in the crash.

In 2010, Louisiana State Police Troop F Troopers have investigated sixteen (16) fatal crashes resulting in seventeen (17) deaths.
