Unrestrained Driver Dies in West Carroll Parish Crash |
LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE
Colonel Michael D. Edmonson, Superintendent
News Release March 20, 2010 Unrestrained Driver Dies in West Carroll Parish Crash
An Oak Grove woman has died in a single vehicle crash in West Carroll Parish.
Louisiana State Police Troop F Troopers investigated the crash at about 4:52 am this morning. A 1994 Chevrolet Camaro was traveling west on Mitchner Rd near LA 17 when the driver lost control of the vehicle and ran off the right side of the road. The driver then overcorrected and briefly reentered the roadway before running back off the road to the right. The Camaro then struck a ditch and culvert before overturning and coming to rest.
The driver, identified as 39-year-old Deronda Johnston from Oak Grove, was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle in the crash. Johnston was pronounced dead at the scene by the West Carroll Parish Coroner's Office.
Troopers suspect that impairment may be a factor in the crash and toxicology tests are pending.
In 2009, in Louisiana alone, 65 percent of the drivers and occupants killed in vehicle crashes were not properly restrained. Wearing a seat belt and properly restraining children is not only the law; it greatly improves your chances of surviving a crash. Always wear a seat belt and properly restrain children.
In 2010, Louisiana State Police Troop F Troopers have investigated seven (7) fatal crashes resulting in seven (7) deaths. Contact Information, Trooper First Class Mark Dennis Louisiana State Police Troop F Public Affairs Office: (318) 345-2810
