News Release March 16, 2010 Madison Parish Fatal Crash
An Idaho man has died in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 20 in Madison Parish.
Louisiana State Police Troop F Troopers investigated the crash today at about 8:58 am. A 1996 Freightliner "18 wheeler" was traveling east on Interstate 20 near milepost 179 in the inside travel lane. For unknown reasons, the Freightliner drifted into the right line and side-swiped a 2009 Freightliner "18 wheeler". The 1996 Freightliner then drifted back to the right, crossing all the travel lanes, and ran off the roadway. The tractor/trailer continued off the road until it struck several trees and came to rest.
The driver of the 1996 Freightliner, identified as 48-year-old Michael McCosker from St. Maries, ID, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Madison Parish Coroner's Office. The driver of the 2009 Freightliner, identified as 40-year-old James Kennedy from Monroe, was not injured in the crash.
Seat belts were used by both drivers in the crash and impairment is not suspected to be a factor, but routine toxicology tests are pending.
The Madison Parish Coroner's Office will determine the exact cause of death for Michael McCosker.
