News Release March 18, 2010 Bastrop Woman Dies in Head-on Crash
A Bastrop woman died in a two vehicle crash in Morehouse Parish.
Louisiana State Police Troop F Troopers investigated a two vehicle fatal crash on March 17, 2010 at about 10:40 pm. A 2001 Chevrolet Trailblazer was traveling west on LA 2 near milepost 159.7 when, for unknown reasons, it crossed the center line and struck a 2008 Volvo tractor/trailer head-on. After the collision, both vehicles ran off the road way and the Volvo became engulfed in flames.
The driver of the Chevrolet, identified as 35-year-old Barbara Evans from Bastrop, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Morehouse Parish Coroner's Office.
The driver of the Volvo, identified as 50-year-old Richard West from Grenada, MS, was taken to Morehouse General Hospital with minor injuries.
Both drivers were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash and impairment is unknown, but routine toxicology tests are pending.
In 2010, Louisiana State Police Troop F Troopers have investigated six (6) fatal crashes resulting in six (6) deaths.
