| LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE Colonel Michael D. Edmonson, Superintendent News Release March 24, 2010 Child Safety Seat Check Scheduled In order to promote the awareness of child safety seats, Louisiana State Police, Louisiana Passenger Safety Task Force, Monroe Police Department and the Monroe Fire Department are sponsoring a child seat check-up event as part of a “Child Safety Day” at the Target store in Monroe (off I-20 and Millhaven Rd) on Saturday, March 27, 2010 from 10 AM to 2 PM. Louisiana statistics show 9 out of every 10 child seats are not installed correctly and have at least two errors. This misuse rate can be attributed to the great variety of child seats available, the great range of children's weights and heights, and the array of vehicles in today's market. These misuses span all races, educational levels, and socioeconomic status. To lower the misuse rate, nationally certified child passenger safety technicians will be on-hand for free evaluations and to provide educational information for parents and caregivers. There will also be information on bicycle, vehicle and fire safety from the various departments on-hand.
