News Release June 27, 2010 Elderly Woman Dies in Lincoln Parish Crash
An elderly woman has died in a single vehicle crash on Interstate 20 in Lincoln Parish.
Louisiana State Police Troop F Troopers responded to the crash today at about 11:12 am. The investigation revealed that a 1990 Cadillac Deville was traveling east on Interstate 20 (milepost 91.5) when the left rear tire on the car suddenly deflated. The driver then lost control of the vehicle and ran off the right side of the roadway. The Cadillac entered a ditch where it began to roll-over and struck a tree on the passenger side of the car.
The driver, identified as 87-year-old Litha Ewing from Ruston, was transported to the Northeast Louisiana Medical Center in Ruston with moderate injuries.
The passenger, identified as 87-year-old Hattie Nelson from Ruston, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Lincoln Parish Coroner's Office.
Ewing and Nelson were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash. Alcohol use is not suspected and routine toxicology tests are pending.
No citations were issued and the crash remains under investigation.
