Sobriety Checkpoint Scheduled for Saturday Night

In Louisiana alone, almost half of all fatality crashes involve impaired drivers. To combat impaired driving in our area, Louisiana State Police Troop F Troopers will team up with other law enforcement agencies to conduct a sobriety checkpoint this weekend.

On Saturday, July 3, 2010, the Louisiana State Police, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries and the West Monroe Police Department will conduct a sobriety checkpoint in West Monroe from approximately 9:00 pm to 4:00 am.

The mission of the departments involved will be to intercept and incarcerate impaired drivers before they cause injury to themselves, their passengers or members of the public. Drivers are less likely to drive impaired when they recognize the increased probability of law enforcement action.

There are no excuses for impaired driving and those who choose to endanger themselves or others will be arrested.

· Before attending any celebration, plan a safe way home
· Before drinking, designate a sober driver and give that person your keys
· If you are impaired, call a taxi, sober friend or family member.
· If you see a suspected drunk driver, contact your local police or sheriff’s department, or call the Louisiana State Police hotline: *LSP (*577)
