News Release September 16, 2010 Child Safety Event in Monroe
The Louisiana Passenger Safety Task Force, Target, the Monroe Fire Department, and the Louisiana State Police are sponsoring a free child safety seat check-up event at the Monroe Target store (off I-20 and Millhaven Rd), on Saturday, September 25, 2010, from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm.
Roughly 3 out of 4 child seat are not used correctly. This misuse rate can be attributed to the great variety of child seats available, the great range of children’s weights and heights, and the array of vehicles in today’s market. These misuses span all races, educational levels, and socioeconomic status.
This event is being done here and all over the nation as part of “National Seat Check Saturday”. Caregivers will be provided with first hand information by a nationally certified child passenger safety technician regarding the proper installation of their child’s safety seat. In addition, caregivers will also be provided with life-saving information as to what child safety seat should be utilized with the appropriate age, weight, and height limits.
The Monroe Fire Department will also offer fire safety tips to the public. They will have their fire safety house available for invaluable training on how to get out of a house in the event of a fire. In addition, troopers will offer bicycle safety tips and have a full-size roll-over simulator that demonstrates the importance of seat belt use for all passengers.
Coinciding with much of the day’s events, PAWS of NE Louisiana will have an off-site adoption from noon to 4:00 pm at PETCO, next to Target. Troopers will be available at this location to answer questions regarding “safe pet transportation”.
