News Release October 10, 2010 Excessive Speed a Factor in Morehouse Parish Fatal Crash
A Mer Rouge man was killed in a two-vehicle crash yesterday evening in Morehouse Parish.
Louisiana State Police Troop F Troopers responded to the crash on October 9, 2010 at about 6:40 pm. The investigation revealed that a 1998 Chevrolet Corvette was traveling north on US 165, near mile post 217.2 in Morehouse Parish, at an apparent high rate of speed. The Corvette crossed the center-line and struck a southbound 2010 Peterbilt tractor/trailer. The Corvette impacted the left rear area of the Peterbilt tractor and continued along the side of the truck and under the trailer portion of the "18-wheeler".
The driver of the Corvette, identified as 52-year-old Larry James King from Mer Rouge, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Morehouse Parish Coroner's Office. King was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash.
The driver of the Peterbilt tractor/trailer, identified as 36-year-old Michael Helton from Cookeville, TN, was not injured in the crash. Helton was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash.
Alcohol use is unknown and routine toxicology tests are pending.
In 2010, Louisiana State Police Troop F Troopers have investigated thirty-one (31) fatal crashes resulting in thirty-three (33) deaths.
