TROOP A NEWS RELEASE April 24, 2018 Speed Suspected to be a Factor in Fatal Pointe Coupee Parish Crash Ventress – Shortly before 7:00 pm on April 24, 2018, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a single vehicle fatality crash on LA 413 north of LA 416 in Pointe Coupee Parish. The crash took the life of 58 year old Joseph Cador of Jarreau. The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Cador was traveling northbound on LA 413 in a 1966 Chevrolet Chevelle. Cador was traveling at a high rate of speed when a tire failed on his vehicle. Cador failed to maintain control of his vehicle and ran off the right side of the roadway. Cador’s vehicle came to a stop after striking a tree on its driver’s side. Cador was unrestrained and sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash. He was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Pointe Coupee Parish Coroner’s Office. It is unknown if impairment was a factor in this crash, but a toxicology sample will be taken from Cador for analysis. Traveling at a high rate of speed decreases the amount of a time a driver has to react in an emergency situation. Motorists should always obey the posted speed limit. All occupants of a motor vehicle must be restrained, regardless of seating position. While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Contact Information: | |||
