Third Annual Public Safety Expo

The Louisiana State Police Superintendent, Colonel Mike Edmonson, believes that troopers should be a part of their communities, not apart from them. The mission of the Louisiana State Police is to ensure the safety and security of the people in the state through enforcement, education, and other essential public safety services.

Louisiana State Police-Troop F has partnered with numerous other public safety agencies in an effort promote public safety and relations within our communities by hosting the “Third Annual Public Safety Expo” at the Monroe Civic Center on Saturday, July 10, 2010, from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. There will be informational booths, displays, and demonstrations from many different public safety agencies. This event is free to everyone and will be an opportunity for the public to meet with public safety-related organizations about their roles in northeast Louisiana’s safety.

The event will include seat belt safety (full-size roll-over demos), fire safety, bicycle safety, 911 system, boating safety, K-9 units, motorcycle units, mobile command units, boats, impaired driving demos (“Fatal Vision” goggles), bomb units, traffic enforcement, helicopters (police and medical), EMS units, SWAT demos, free car seat checks, and other demonstrations from numerous agencies.

Additionally, for the first time, the Expo will incorporate a live-training exercise and water rescue demonstration. This demo will be located on the Ouachita River across from the Ouachita Parish Courthouse. The demonstration will utilize rescue boats and helicopters, and is scheduled to begin at approximately 4:00 pm. Spectators can view the demonstration from the “River Walk” in front of the courthouse on South Grand Street, or from the levee area on the west side of the river. Agencies assisting with this demonstration include the Louisiana State Police, Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries, Louisiana Levee District Police, United States Coast Guard, Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office, Monroe Police Department, and West Monroe Police Department.

This event is made possible from numerous contributions, but special thanks to the City of Monroe and the Monroe Civic Center for providing an ideal (air-conditioned!) location for this event. The Louisiana Trooper’s Foundation and Century Link Security Systems were instrumental in providing resources and funding so this event could be offered free to the public.

There will be giveaways, door prizes, and refreshments.

The media is cordially invited.
