Edmonson, Superintendent News Release July 6, 2010 Insurance Agent Arrested in West Monroe Louisiana State Police investigators arrested a West Monroe insurance agent for fraudulent insurance practices. Today, LSP investigators arrested 26-year-old Michael “Ryan” Evans from West Monroe for four (4) counts of theft, two (2) counts of failure to remit premiums and one (1) count of forgery of a certificate of insurance or insurance card. Evans was working as an independent insurance agent in West Monroe when investigators received a complaint from the Louisiana Department of Insurance. The LSP investigation, which has been on-going for nearly two months, determined that Evans failed to remit insurance premiums given to him by his customers on at least two occasions. He also altered the effective dates on a proof of insurance card and failed to refund money that was due to his clients from their respective insurance companies. Evans has been served with a cease and desist order by investigators with the Louisiana Department of Insurance and is now prohibited from selling insurance policies. Evans was booked at the Ouachita Parish Correctional Center with a $42,000 bond. Louisiana State Police investigators ask that anyone who has conducted business with Michael “Ryan” Evans and is concerned about the status of their insurance policy to contact their insurance provider.
