News Release July 23, 2010 Fatal Interstate Crash in Lincoln Parish
A Florida man has died and several other people were injured in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 20 in Lincoln Parish.
Louisiana State Police Troop F Troopers responded to the crash today at about 3:00 pm. The investigation revealed that a 2002 Chevrolet Suburban was traveling east on I-20 in the inside lane, at about milepost 97, overtaking a 2002 GMC truck pulling a livestock trailer. For unknown reasons, the driver of the Suburban abruptly swerved to the right and struck the GMC. Both vehicles then ran off the south side of the road and entered the tree line.
The Suburban struck several trees before coming to rest. The front seat passenger of the suburban, identified as 51-year-old William "Tim" Harris from Niceville, FL, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Lincoln Parish Coroner's Office. The 16-year-old driver of the Suburban was transported to the LSU-Shreveport hospital with critical injuries. Two back seat passengers in the Suburban, Dianne Harris (46 yoa) and Bethany Harris (18 yoa), were transported to Lincoln General Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
The GMC and its trailer also struck several trees before coming to rest. The driver of the GMC, identified as 40-year-old Nancy "Becky" White from Simsboro, LA, was transported to Lincoln General Hospital for minor injuries. The passenger in the GMC, identified as 17-year-old Jessica Brunston, was also transported to Lincoln General for moderate injuries. Three cows in the trailer were killed in the crash.
Troopers believe that the occupants and drivers were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash. Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in the crash, but routine toxicology tests are pending.
No citations have been issued and the crash remains under investigation.
In 2010, Louisiana State Police Troop F Troopers have investigated twenty-three (23) fatal crashes resulting in twenty-four (24) deaths.
