News Release July 25, 2010 Franklin Parish Fatal Crash
A Winnsboro man was killed after being ejected from the bed of the truck he was riding in.
Louisiana State Police Troop F Troopers responded to the crash this morning at about 3:50 am. The investigation revealed that a 1998 GMC truck was traveling west on Norwood Rd in Franklin Parish when the driver lost control of the vehicle in a curve. The truck ran off the right side of the road and struck a tree before coming to rest.
There were three occupants riding in the bed of the truck at the time of the crash. Joey Anding (20 yoa from Winnsboro) was ejected from the bed of the truck and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Franklin Parish Coroner's Office. The remaining occupants, Charlie Smith (20 yoa from Winnsboro) and Thomas Hurles (18 yoa from Winnsboro), received minor injuries in the crash and were taken to the Franklin Parish hospital for treatment.
The driver of the truck, identified as 29-year-old James Valentine from Winnsboro, received minor injuries in the crash. Valentine was issued a citation for careless operation.
There was an additional occupant, identified as Greg Hill Jr (18 yoa from Winnsboro), that was riding in the cab of the truck. He also received minor injuries in the crash.
Alcohol use is not suspected to be a factor in the crash.
In 2010, Louisiana State Police Troop F Troopers have investigated twenty-four (24) fatal crashes resulting in twenty-five (25) deaths.
