News Release August 2, 2010 Head-on Crash Seriously Injures Driver
A Bastrop woman was seriously injured after hitting a log truck head-on in Union Parish.
Louisiana State Police Troop F Troopers responded to the crash this morning at about 8:15 am. They determined that a 2009 Ford van was traveling north on LA 33 (milepost 16.4) when, for unknown reasons, the driver crossed the center line and struck a southbound 1997 Mack truck head-on. After the initial collision the Mack truck ran off the east side of the roadway where it turned over onto its side and lost its load of logs.
The driver of the Ford van, identified as 25-year-old Jennifer Lowery from Bastrop, was air-lifted to the LSU-Shreveport hospital in serious condition. Lowery was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
The driver of the Mack truck, identified as 46-year-old Thomas Cox from Marion, was transported to the Union General Hospital with minor injuries. Cox was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash.
Alcohol use is not suspected to be a factor, but routine toxicology tests are pending. The investigation is on-going and charges are pending.
