News Release February 21, 2010 Motorcycle Fatality Crash in Madison Parish
A Texas man has died after being ejected from the motorcycle he was driving on Interstate 20 in Madison Parish.
The crash occurred on February 20, 2010, at about 7:30 pm, on the west bound lanes of Interstate 20 (milepost 155) between Delhi and Waverly. There were several motorcycles traveling together when traffic congestion caused them to become separated. David Martin (54 yoa from Onalaska, TX) was operating a 1975 Harley Davidson and was apparently trying to catch up with a 2006 Harley Davidson being driven by Gordon Massengale (62 yoa from Rayville, LA). Martin overtook Massengale and inadvertently sideswiped him as he passed. Both men were ejected from their motorcycles. Martin came to rest in the inside travel lane where he was struck by a 2009 Peterbilt Tractor/Trailer being driven by David McCarn (48 yoa from Goodwater, AL).
Martin was pronounced dead at the scene by the Madison Parish Coroner's Office. Massengale was taken to St Francis Medical Center with moderate injuries. McCarn was not injured in the crash. No citations have been issued in this crash. Alcohol use is unknown and routine toxicology tests are pending.
The westbound lanes of Interstate 20 between Waverly and Delhi were closed for nearly three hours while troopers investigated the crash.
In 2010, Louisiana State Police Troop F Troopers have investigated three (3) fatal crashes resulting in three (3) deaths. Contact Information, Trooper First Class Mark Dennis Louisiana State Police Troop F Public Affairs Office: (318) 345-2810
