TROOP A NEWS RELEASE May 6, 2018 Speed Possible Factor in Pointe Coupee Parish Fatal Crash Oscar – Shortly after 9:00 pm on May 5, 2018, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a single vehicle crash that resulted in a fatality on LA Hwy 1 south of LA Hwy 978 in Pointe Coupee Parish. The crash took the life of 40 year old Jeremy D. Manchester of New Roads. The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Manchester was traveling northbound on LA Hwy 1 in a 2006 Honda Accord. Troopers believe Manchester was exceeding the speed limit when he lost control of his vehicle and ran off the roadway. Upon leaving the roadway the Honda struck a tree. Troopers are unsure at this time if Manchester was properly restrained, but he suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash. He was pronounced deceased on scene by the Pointe Coupee Parish Coroner’s Office. Impairment is unknown at this time, and a toxicology sample was taken from Manchester to be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. This crash remains under investigation. Impaired driving and the lack of seat belt use continue to be the leading causes of death in motor vehicle crashes in Louisiana. Troopers wish to remind motorists that all occupants of a motor vehicle must be restrained, regardless of seating position. While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired, always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained, and obeying all traffic laws can often mean the difference between life and death.
