News Release July 15, 2009 Motorcycle Driver Dies in Two-Vehicle Crash
A motorcycle driver has died in an early morning crash in Jackson Parish.
The crash occurred on LA 147, near Jonesboro, on July 15, 2009 at about 8:00 am. A 2008 Kawasaki motorcycle was traveling south on LA 147 when, for unknown reasons, the driver lost control of the vehicle and crossed the centerline. The motorcycle struck a 2005 Freightliner "18 wheeler" nearly head-on.
The driver of the motorcycle, identified as 48-year-old Mark Anderson from Quitman, LA, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Jackson Parish Coroner's Office. Anderson was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Impairment is unknown at this time pending toxicology tests.
The driver of the Freightliner, identified as 51-year-old Marshall McGrath from Winston Salem, NC, was not injured in the crash. Impairment is not suspected on the part of McGrath.
No citations were issued in the crash.
