News Release July 25, 2009 Elderly Driver Dies in Ouachita Parish Crash
An 89 year old man died in a two vehicle crash in Ouachita Parish.
The crash occurred on July 24, 2009 at about 5:45 pm at the intersection of US Hwy 80 and Slocum Rd in the western part of Ouachita Parish. A 2008 Toyota Avalon was traveling south on Slocum Rd when the driver failed to stop at a stop sign. The Toyota was hit in the area near the driver's door by a 1997 Chevrolet Blazer, that had been traveling west on Hwy 80.
The driver of the Toyota, identified as 89 year old Maloy Slocum from West Monroe, was transported to Glenwood Hospital, but died a short time later. Slocum was wearing his seat belt and impairment is not suspected to be a factor in the crash.
The driver of the Chevrolet, identified as 29 year old April Bearden from West Monroe, was transported to Glenwood hospital with minor injuries. Two children, ages three and four, were in the vehicle with Bearden and were also taken to Glenwood for minor injuries. Bearden and the children were properly restrained at the time of the crash.
In 2009, Louisiana State Police Troop F Troopers have investigated twenty-four (24) fatal crashes resulting in twenty-seven (27) deaths. Contact Information,
