News Release August 4, 2009 Motorcycle Driver Dies in West Carroll Parish Crash
A 52-year-old Oak Grove man died in a motorcycle crash in West Carroll Parish.
The crash occurred on August 3, 2009 at about 4:02 pm six miles west of Oak Grove on LA 2. A 2002 Honda motorcycle was traveling west, at a reported high rate of speed, when the driver lost control of the vehicle in a sharp curve. The motorcycle ran the road and entered a ditch where it struck an embankment and ejected the driver.
The driver, identified as 52-year-old James Smith from Oak Grove, was initially transported to the West Carroll Parish hospital with serious injuries. Smith was then in the process of being transported to St Francis hospital in Monroe when his condition worsened. Smith died at the Delhi hospital where the EMS unit stopped due to his deteriorating condition.
Smith was not wearing a motorcycle helmet at the time of the crash. Alcohol use is suspected to be a factor and toxicology tests are pending.
