News Release May 25, 2009 ATV Crash Kills a Union Parish Man
A man was killed in an early morning ATV crash in Union Parish.
The crash occurred on May 25, 2009 at about 12:20 am on Daniel Rd north of Farmerville. A 2009 Can Am four-wheeler was traveling north on Daniel Rd behind a 2008 Honda four-wheeler. For unknown reasons, the driver of the Can Am rear ended the Honda and lost control of his ATV. The Can Am continued off the roadway and struck a large tree.
The driver of the Can Am, identified as 20 year old Adam Mason from Spearsville, LA, was ejected from the ATV in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Union Parish Coroner's Office. His passenger, identified as 18 year old Camille Gathwright from Strong, AR, was also ejected and she was air lifted to the LSU-Shreveport Hospital with moderate injuries.
The driver of the Honda, identified as 22 year old Jessie Smith Jr from Spearsville, and his passenger, 19 year old Amelia Smith from Strong, AR, were not injured in the crash.
Alcohol use is unknown and routine toxicology tests are pending. No citations have been issued and the crash remains under investigation.
