Unrestrained Child Dies in Union Parish Crash

A 10-month-old child has died in an early morning crash.

The crash occurred on June 6, 2009 at about 1:20 am on Wesley Russell Rd in Union Parish.

A 2005 Chevrolet Malibu was traveling south on Wesley Russell Rd when the driver lost control of the vehicle and ran off the road to the right. After leaving the roadway, the Chevrolet struck a large tree and came to rest.

The driver, identified as 19-year-old Shianne Bilberry from Farmerville, received moderate injuries in the crash and was transported to Union General Hospital for treatment. Her 10-month-old daughter received serious injuries in the crash and was air lifted to the LSU-Shreveport Hospital in critical condition.

The front seat passenger, identified as 35-year-old Patricia Conville from Farmerville, was holding the 10-month-old child in her lap at the time of the crash. Conville received moderate injuries in the crash and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Another passenger in the vehicle, an 8-year-old female, received minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. This child was restrained with a seat belt at the time of the crash.

On June 6, 2009 at about 11:25 am, the 10-month-old child was pronounced dead at the LSU-Shreveport Hospital.

Shianne Bilberry was issued a citation for Careless Operation, No Driver's License, and Failure to use a Child Restraint.

The investigation is ongoing.

In 2009, Louisiana State Police Troop F Troopers have investigated fifteen (15) fatal crashes resulting in seventeen (17) deaths.
