Unrestrained Passenger Dies in West Carroll Parish Crash

A one vehicle crash has killed one man and seriously injured another.

The crash occurred on June 13, 2009 at about 3:04 pm on LA 585 in West Carroll Parish.

A 1993 GMC truck was traveling south on LA 585 approximately 5 miles north of Goodwill when the driver lost control of the vehicle in a curve and ran off the road. The driver then overcorrected and ran off the roadway to the left where the vehicle rolled over several times before coming to rest.

The driver, identified as 31-year-old Christopher Butler from Pioneer, LA, was ejected from the vehicle and was transported to St Francis hospital for treatment of critical injuries he sustained in the crash.

A passenger, identified as 50-year-old Mitchell Dye from Oak Grove, was transported to the hospital in Oak Grove where he died from injuries he received in the crash.

A third passenger, identified as 21 year old Corey Lovell from Lake Providence, was transported to St Francis hospital with minor injuries.

Lovell was the only occupant wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. Alcohol use is suspected to be a factor and toxicology tests are pending.

In 2009, Louisiana State Police Troop F Troopers have investigated sixteen (16) fatal crashes resulting in eighteen (18) deaths.
