Troopers Make Drug Bust

A North Carolina woman was arrested by troopers after they find her with more than twenty-five pounds of cocaine.

On the afternoon of August 6th, Louisiana State Police Troop F Troopers stopped a 2001 Pontiac Aztec on I-20 in Calhoun for an equipment violation. The troopers made contact with the driver and noticed that she was acting very nervously. The driver also had other inconsistencies with her travel plans that made the troopers suspicious. Troopers requested permission to search the vehicle, which the driver granted. During the initial search, Troopers located personal use quantities of marijuana and valium.
Troopers also observed non-factory components beneath the car. This lead troopers to have the Pontiac escorted to the Troop F office for a safer location to examine the vehicle.

Troopers continued their search of the vehicle at Troop F and located a hidden compartment beneath the back seat of the vehicle. Within that compartment, troopers located 10.5 "kilo sized" bricks of suspected cocaine weighing a total of 25.4 pounds.

The driver, identified as 43-year-old Cheryl Martin from Hickory, NC, was arrested and booked at the Ouachita Parish Correctional Center for Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Schedule IV (Valium), Improper Display of License Plate, and Possession with Intent to Distribute Cocaine. Her total bond has been set at $255,900.00.
